A rival is ahead, traffic is approaching, and the finish line is still in the distance. Rival Racing combines left-and-right driving with disruptive items that can change the flow of a race. Steering well is only part of the challenge: deciding when to use an item adds another layer to the contest.
Read the road, avoid other vehicles, and keep track of your position as the course scrolls past. Smoke bombs, interference waves, and missiles give you ways to challenge the opponent while you continue managing your own car. Stay alert in front and look for another opportunity when you fall behind.
How to play
- Press START to open RACING READY. Check your stocks of smoke bombs, interference items, and missiles. If needed, add items using the in-game gem cost shown on the preparation screen.
- Press PLAY to find an opponent and begin the race. Locate your car, the road, the position display on the left, and the course-progress indicator on the right.
- Use the direction buttons at the lower left and right to steer. Adjust how long you hold a button to control your movement across the road. Watch incoming vehicles and make room for your route.
- Change position to avoid collisions. Look beyond the nearest vehicle to the space you intend to enter. After passing one obstacle, check where the next vehicle is before committing to another movement.
- Use the three item buttons along the bottom to deploy your available interference tools. Check their state after use, and balance the moment of applying pressure with the attention needed to drive safely.
- Follow your speed, position, and progress toward the finish. Aim to arrive first while continuing to manage both steering and items, even when the order changes.
Look at the space after the avoidance move
A sudden move away from one vehicle can put you in the path of another. Before steering, inspect both the blocked area and the road ahead of your intended position. Learn when a brief press is enough and when a longer hold is needed to move farther.
If a collision or interference disrupts your rhythm, find the next safe position first. Trying to recover a place immediately can make it easier to miss another approaching vehicle. Restore control, then prepare for the next opportunity.
The road remains important regardless of the rankings. A small steering correction made at the right moment can be more useful than a hurried movement prompted by seeing yourself fall behind.
Items are part of the driving rhythm
The three disruptive items give you additional decisions during a race. Rather than pressing every available button without looking, consider how busy the road is and how the positions are changing. Your car keeps moving while you check the item area.
After using an item, notice the change around its button and return your attention to the road. Do not let an attempt to pressure the rival distract you from a vehicle directly ahead. Build a rhythm that alternates a quick item decision with continuous awareness of your route.
The contest is about maintaining your own progress as well as interfering with the opponent. Keep those goals together when choosing the next action.
Prepare, read the race, and keep going
The ready screen lets you inspect your item supply and gem balance before departure. Begin by learning the controls with the available equipment, then decide what preparation is useful as you become familiar with the race.
During play, the speed display and course indicator help you understand the current situation. Traffic, item use, and changing positions can all affect what you choose to do next, so respond to the road you see rather than following a fixed pattern of button presses.
Do not relax just because you have moved ahead, and do not rush your steering simply because the rival has passed you. Avoid the next vehicle, find open road, and choose your item moments carefully. Chase first place all the way to the finish in Rival Racing.
